Two Glasses
Just got back from a whirlwind visit to New York as part of my participation in the OATS project. One of the indubitable highlights, right up there with the perfect weather, was a chance to finally meet Toast, the proprietor of the splendid Two Glasses Blog, along with the lovely and charming Mrs. Toast. It was an evening of spirited, wide-ranging alcohol-fueled bullshitting, my very favorite sort of entertainment.
…which leads me to propose the following meme for fellow bloggers and commenters. What five living people would you most like to go out for an evening of beers and lively conversation, and why? Here’s my list:
5. Thurston Moore (singer/guitarist of Sonic Youth) – obviously an intelligent guy on a range of subjects, and a total indie-rock maven.
4. Sharon Stone (actress) – reportedly one of the sharpest people in Hollywood with stories and opinions I would enjoy hearing, and a, um, good dresser.
3. Vasclav Havel (writer, retired politician) – worldly, witty guy who probably has interesting stories from both politics and literature, and looks like he enjoys lifting the glass.
2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (retired athlete) – author, philosopher, jazz aficionado and, almost incidentally, leading scorer in NBA history. I am in awe of how brilliant this man is whenever I see him appear on TV. Along with Mohammed Ali and Sandy Koufax, the only pro athlete I would want to meet in person.
And my number one pick…
1. Bill Clinton (former POTUS). From what I understand, I will not have to worry much about holding up my end of the conversation.
Runners up and why they were rejected: Robert Crumb (probably bad company), Woody Allen (ditto), author William Gibson (seems to save his best lines for his books), and Bill Gates (couldn’t afford the $1 million/minute his time is worth).
And you?
