Blogs Get Some Ink
Last week I got an email from Seattle Times writer Kristi Heim, who may have seen or heard about my post on (failed) Washington Gubenatorial candidate Ron Sims, and wanted to chat about bloggers and their impact on local politics. She's got a pretty good article up, and although EA didn't make the final cut (at least in the online version, although there is a link in the sidebar), she mentions a few of my local faves. The star of the show is the good ship USS Mariner, which chronicles the ups and (mostly) downs of our local baseball team.
Over the last few weeks, the USS Mariner has been on a crusade to get the Mariners baseball team to rip out a set of "temporary" bleachers that were on the verge of becoming a permanent fixture in the picnic-patio area of center field, thus stepping on one of the more appealing features of our beautiful new ballpark. The USS Mariner launched a letter-writing campaign targeting the M’s and the local papers. Apparently, it worked. The management scuttled backward from their typical posture of fan-contempt and made a fairly convincing act of contrition before the County Public Facilities District. Win won for the bloggers – who now have a far better winning percentage than the team on the field.
