Gray Lady Going Senile
Today's New York Times offers a shocking editorial admitting the paper was duped by lies and false intelligence peddled by Iraqi exiles and repeated or confirmed by Bush Administration officials, and ended up publishing a bunch of stories that erroneously lent authority to claims about the existance of WMDs. These stories, of course, helped to justify the march to war, which has been the great policy disaster of our times and the death of many American soldiers. Funny, innit, that the "great bastion of the liberal press" gave prestige and cover to a pack of lies cooked up by crooks like Chalabi and his neo-con cheerleaders, just as Times scribe Jeff Gerth was the primary mainstream conduit for the false Whitewater stories and unsubstantiated anti-Clinton slanders dished out by the far Right in the 90s. Maybe, just maybe, we can stop calling this paper "liberal" and just call it a rotten news organization?
