Gas Pains
Calls by Democrats for the Administration to release as many as 60 million gallons of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserves this summer are the worst kind of irresponsible political stupidity, and the ringleaders - including Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) - need to cut it out. Yeah, gas prices are a bitch. My car takes premium, and while it gets respectable mileage, it's still a painful experience to visit the pump. So what? My car, my choice. Same with all those folks in mini-vans and SUVs. There is reason to think we will face a real energy crisis sometime soon and we may need that oil to keep the wheels of our economy going, never mind the wheels of our gas-guzzlers. The temptation to use those reserves to score cheap political points during a summer when gas may reach $2.75 a gallon is tempting. Democrats (and Republicans) interested in the country's well being should resist.
